[Gnuplot-info] can gnuplot cut out parts of an axis where there is no data?

Hello!


I'm looking for a way to make gnuplot cut out a part of the x-axis where there
is no data. I don't know how this is called. Often it's  used  in  time  lines
where  there  were  no  incidents for a long time but then again many in short
periods. To make those important  small  period  be  easyly  visible  the  big
uninmportant part is skipped by to // in the axis.
Can gnuplot do that? How is it called?

The usual name is "broken" or "split" axis range.

Only by getting out of the way and letting you do all the hard work, I'm 
afraid.  You have to disable a lot of elements of the axis and draw what 
you want instead, using 'set arrow' and 'set label' repeatedly.

Would  be  a  nice  feature  to have though. Specifing just a max range within
which data has to be until the plot is split.
I think I'll create a big resolution plot and use gimp to do the splitting.
