[Gnuplot-info] terminal png

Hi,
I am attempting to set the margins with a 3d plot.  The plot contains too much white space.  I was trying to alleviate this with the 'crop' command.  But when I request it in the png terminal, I get this error

gnuplot> set term png crop
Terminal type set to 'png'
                   
         expecting: {small, medium, large},[no]transparent, or {monochrome, gray, color, [xRRGGBB] }

This is version 4.0 patchlevel 0 and according to the documentation, this should not be a problem.
What am I doing wrong?
How do I size the graph within the plot area using splot?

That's because you're reading the wrong documentation, I'm afraid.  What 
does "help png" in your actual binary have to say about options to "set 
terminal png"?
