[Gnuplot-info] plot using unique and ranges

Hello,

I am ploting three data files using the "smooth unique" option 
in the following way:

plot "file1" using 1:2 title 'A' w lines smooth unique, 
"file2"  using 1:2 title 'B' w lines smooth unique, 
"file3" using 1:2 title 'C' w lines smooth unique

I would like to know if it is possible to do this same plot but 
showing the ranges of the values in the y axis 
(i.e. to evaluatethe variance), instead of only the averages.

Only by doing it outside gnuplot.  'smooth unique' only computes 
averages --- of y values, and x and y errorbar endpoints.

Yes, what I want is to show the errorbar endpoints instead of just the averages. 
Is it possible? How can I do it?

If your input data has error bars, "smooth unique" will average their 
endpoints just like it does the y values themselves.  It won't compute 
what you originally seemed to be looking for, though: minimum and 
maximum y values.
