[Gnuplot-info] Problems installing from CVS

Hello,

I am using Freebsd 6 and have problems with the building process of gnuplot 
4.1. The prepare script hangs, here is the output:

This may be a good time to complain to the FreeBSD people about 
installing obviously flawed automake macros into your system.

This a problem with your make: it failed to substitute "$<" in the rule 
for building Makefile.am.in.  autoconf/automake is a little picky.  It 
expects people who use it to have a fully GNUified work setup, including 
a 'make' that is actually GNU make.  Our 'prepare' script makes similar 
requirements.

So: either you do your ./prepare runs on a Linux box, or you set up a 
completely GNUish environment for running it.

Well, automake is gnu automake19 from the ports tree...

OK, I substituted make with gmake in the prepare script. There are a lot of=
=20
warnings but it finishes now and I can build gnuplot. Seems to work.

Yes.  But those macros it warns about aren't part of automake itself. 
They're installed by other packages, and those apparently install 
versions that automake 1.9 objects to.  Ultimately, that's to be 
addressed among port maintainers.
