Using a file loop for that is likely the wrong approach. Finite
recursion, as shown in one of our demos, generally works better.

Well, so define it before you run the loop file. A simple
a = 0
before you load the loop script should work. You can put some, but not
all initializations for a loop script inside the script itself.
