Hi,
Sorry to spam you for this, but I have a research report waiting to be
handed in and I want to use dashed lines in my plot like  this demo
site: http://gnuplot.sourceforge.net/demo_4.1/dashcolor.html
But it seems my terminal doesn't show dashed lines :S Please help me,
because I need those dashed lines.

 becomes very obscure when printed in B/W and I was thinking it might
come out better with dashed and undashed lines.

So which terminal type should I set it to? I use gnuplot from CVS (just
installed it). And one other thing, this gnuplot can't manage "tc rgb
"orange"" or any other color
gnuplot> set label 2 'set style line 2 lt 2 lc rgb "orange" lw 2' at
-0.4, -0.35 tc rgb "orange"

         textcolor colorspec not recognized

Maybe this has something to do with it?

Hold it right there.  No, you almost certainly don't want to use PNG as
the file format of a plot that'll go to the printer eventually.  Use a
vector file format, like PostScript, SVG, PDF or CGM, not a pixel-based one.

Check the help for the terminal you'll actually use, and watch out for a 
'dashed' option.

I used "set terminal png font "arial" 8 transparent size 420,320" which
the demo site claims to have used to generate all of the demo's. But
still no luck..... SVG also gives NO dashed lines.
Any other ideas, or should I hand in a colour only version...

Then why don't you heed that advice?  Why still insist on sticking with 
the PNG driver?

PNG is a very special case --- there are two quite separate drivers that 
can be compiled in to become "set terminal png".  They have different 
capabilities.

So pick another driver.  Or convince someone to implement dashing for 
the existing SVG driver.
