Perhaps your gnuplot 4.2.5 makes png files by the gd libraries.
While the wxt uses the cairo + pango libraries.
Roughly speaking, the gd gives light graphic handling, while the cairo + pango gives
sophisticated, and beautififul (antialiasing etcs.) graphic handling but they use more machine
resources than those used by the gd.
However, the speed of wxt terminal are determined by a lot of factors.
You should reveal builiding condition of your gnuplot with wxt terminal in detail.
(Kinf of OS, do you use wxGTK, wxX11, etcs)
