the awk script is to be used to separate isolines, a
x1 y1 z1
x1 y2 z2
x1 y99 z99
x2 y1 z100
x2 y2 z101
x2 y99 z198
x3 y1 z199
but your data isn't sorted at all, so there are blank
lines added nearly everywhere.
you need to sort your data first.
