That's generally impossible these days --- and for a good reason, too.
Any user running an email client on, say, Windows, in "automatically
display attachments" mode these days would be criminally negligent.
Their PC would be infected with some kind of malware within minutes of
first opening their mail client.

Another bad idea. That system is way too old. There's hardly ever a
sane reason to use outdated versions of free software. An update to RH8
or an equivalently current system, e.g. Fedora, should be the first
thing on your list of things to do.

Then you ain't seen nothing yet. "mail" has been old-fashioned longer
than "Linux" has been a word.
