I dont understand what you want to plot? Do you have different e(a) at
different times t, that is:

e1(a) at t1
e2(a) at t2
e3(a) at t3?

If this is your case and the data looks like:

#a  e1  e2  e3  e4  ...
0    0   0   0   0
1    1   2   3   4
2    2   4   6   8
...

you could do look into splot.

if you want to create several plots of sin(a*x) with increasing a, you 
could either do

  plot a=1, plot(a*x);
  pause -1;
  plot a=2, plot(a*x);
  pause -1;
  ...

or you could save each of them into a png file and create an animation 
from there, or you could use "splot sin(y*x)"

here is my request:

I have many data points of the 2 values [ eccentricity (e) and semi-major axis (a) ] that change over a certain time.
So my x-y-function is y(x) = e(a). As time evaluates, this curve will change too.
What I want to plot is: an animation that includes all my data points e&a at different times in the way
that I receive an animation of the in time changing curve e(a).
Is such a thing possible with gnuplot. (If yes...how??? :) )

Hi,
can GNU plot do this?

I have time line (e.g. 1960 - 2000) and several countries (e.g. Germany,
USA, Soth Africa, ...). During some period of time some situation for a
country may be true of false. Situation: the country in involved in some
war.

My data table
Year   Country1  Country2  Country3 .....
----------------------------------------
1960   0            1             1 
1961   0            1             0
1962   1            0             1
1963   1            0             1

I want that GNUPlor draws a horizontal time line. Above the time line should
be a horizontal bar for each country when the table entry is 1 for a period
of time. And the name of the country should be placed inside the bar.

Can this be done by GNUPlit (and how?) or do I have to draw it using some
other tool?

Just in case that wasn't obvious: the same can be done with 'set ytics', 
too.

But you'll probably want the yticlabels() argument to 'using'.  See

Is there anyway to do a call back in a gnuplot script for the following 
purpose.
I use splot to display a 3D plot in and X-window.  I use the mouse to 
orient the
plot.  Is there anyway for the script to read the plot orientation so I 
can feed the
orientation data into section of the script that will produce a hardcopy 
of the plot
in a postscript terminal (I do not want to do a screen capture due to 
resolution issues)?
If not in a gnuplot script could it be done with gnuplot-python? If so how?

How can i set the y-achses from numerical values to events?
I only know the expression " set xtics".

Is there an alternative??

How about you write a script that determines the number of columns lets 
call it col-count and then do something like

plot for [i=1:`col-count`] 'data.dat' u 1:i

(see help iteration)

col-count could look like: "awk 'END { print NF }' data.dat" or 
something more advanced.

Hi everybody,
I'm trying to plot a label over a pm3d surface. The pm3d overlays my 
label. How to make the label visible??? For instance the minimal script
for illustration:
