I'm trying to do a fit and plot the line with a time axis. I can do the fit with an ordinal axis (i.e. 0:2), but can't figure out how to make a fit with time or display the ordinal fit in time. plt2.pdf shows what I'm trying to fit so I can show the date the line meets 0%. plt2a.pdf shows the result for: g(x) = a + b*x fit g(x) 'b' u 0:2 via a,b set term post lw 3 set out 'plt2a.ps' plot 'b' u 0:2,g(x) I just want to do the same thing but with the time axis as shown in plt2.pdf. I've read the help and demos, but just don't quite get it. I'm running 5.0 patch level 6 on OpenIndiana. If this is better done with a more recent version I'll build that from source and install it. Hello, list. I have a large .csv file and I need to plot only 500 of its elements which are towards the end. I would still like to have the x-axis to count the elements starting from 0. I have the following script which generates this error: "all points y value undefined!". It must be a problem with the operation that I perform on $0 because I can plot if I remove the subtraction. Would you please help me understand what I'm doing wrong and, generally, what is the best practice to start counting the elements from zero even when the elements do not start from the zero-position? That output looks similar to previous reports that traced back to a bad version of the pango/cairo libraries on the affected machines. In other words, to fix it you need to replace those libraries. No need to change anything in gnuplot per se. Previous reporters said that "downgrading" the libraries fixed it for them but I do not remember the specific versions involved. Or if you are working in a LaTeX friendly environment, I suggest using the tikz terminal to generate pdf output for use with pdflatex. The resulting .png has the correct plots but the numbers of the values of the tics are overlapped. See this image: https://www.dropbox.com/s/w1a9ch0emh3l1zl/singleplot.png?dl=0. If using the eps terminal, there is no problem with the tics, although I don't seem to be able to use 'times', and I happened to have a hard time loading eps files in the latex template of my uni so I'd prefer to stick to .png files. Hi,
you could specify the linecolor as ARGBvalue by adding the "linecolor"
option to your plot command:
plot for [i=2:N] "input.dat" u 1:i with lines title "" linewidth 2 \
linecolor rgb ((255-i) << 16) + ((255-i) << 8) + 255
starting from (nearly) white and ending with dark blue.
Works, if N is around 250 but below 255, otherwise you have
to add a scaling factor to the color computation.

f(x) = sqrt(x) # or whatever
set samples 100
set table $Data
plot [100:200] '+' u (sprintf("%13.6f, %g", $1, f($1))) with table
unset table

warning: 'with table' requires a data source not a pure function
warning: encountered a string when expecting a number
Did you try to generate a file name using dummy variable x or y?
But I cannot make it works
