What you mean by "summing colors"? Summing of R,G,B components?
Or do you want to overlap two surfaces -- draw surface R2 on top of R1?
I think you really want first to sum R1+R2, then give it a colour, then
draw it. If you want to play with the color scale, use "set palette" and
"set cbrange".
