I love that Sastry openned with the paragraph that he did, discussing 
the two different methods or philosophies generating graphs.  I think 
we've had that discussion here in the past.  It's good for new-comers to 
think about that.

Well yeah.  But it was odd that he only mentions two modes of use,
interactive and batch. He ignores use as a back-end, whether to
a web script or to a higher-level application like octave.

I noticed that too.  Perhaps he's not really used gnuplot that way.
