set encoding utf8

[Allin C. <cot...@wf...>]

Can anyone tell me which is the earliest release of gnuplot that
supports utf8 as an encoding option?  Thanks.

The explicit "set encoding utf8" option was added to CVS in Sep 2007
(version 4.3).

Version 4.4.0 was the first inclusion in a supported release.

However, many terminals already operated by default in utf8 prior
this.  For example, in version 4.2.0 (March 2007) the x11,
libgd (png/jpeg), and wxt terminals all operated in utf8.
