Bug? show palette palette does now write to file

According to the documentation, I can
export a palette to file, but this does not
seem to work:

set palette defined ( 0 'red', 1 'yellow' )
set output "foo"
show palette palette 3

creates an empty file "foo", but prints the
palette values only to the screen.

The command
  set output "foo"
controls where the output from the next 'plot' or 'splot' will go,
not printed output.

What you want is
  set print "baz"
which controls where to send the output of subsequent 'print' commands.

Yes, this seems to be an error in the docs.
