The PDF library you used for linking is a demo of the commercial
libpdf package. Alternatively you could use the binary and lib package
provided at
http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/pdflib-lite.htm
I just tested it very quickly, so don't blame me if it doesn't owrk ;-)

Not wxt and pdf, but other terminals are in the "testing" windows
binary gp41-July18_2006-winbin.zip available (as all other testing 
binaries, including gnuplot source tarballs):

There is a predefined atom for the string "PIXMAP", which is used to
identify the type of the property.

Atom is a well-defined term in X, so any documentation that misuses
the term is broken.

Don't think so. If the X server does decide to defer some work, it
will have to somehow lock the pixmap, and then when someone tries to access it,
block that client until the work is done.

I agree it's a simpler way to change the timing. But if you are
relying on timing, the code is broken somewhere.

Ah - tell you what - there is one thing that is timing dependent.

When you acquire a selection, you're supposed to give a
timestamp. That is a server time, and it usually comes from the X
event that triggered the action to acquire the selection. But gnuplot
doesn't have such an event. IIRC, we use "currenttime" for that, but
that isn't a real time.

The X server uses the timestamp to resolve if two separate clients try
to acquire the same selection : the later time should win. Maybe the
problem is in that part of the code.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem. I will try and generate 
binaries with debug symbols in, and look for the problem myself when I have 
the time.

I just wanted to approve that I have the same "crashing-problem" with
PNG driver from the very beginning (but I have not enough experience
to find out what's going wrong and I thought that I was simply too
stupid to be able to compile gnuplot with GD and PDF support - PDF
works OK though, but I get a huge watermark in the background with the
name of the PDF library which makes the PDF driver useless even if it
was more advanced).

png and wxt support built-in since I wasn't able to use/compile either
fo them.

The version 2005 is also known as the version "8", so it seems that my
version is "too new". During compiling I also get tons of warnings in

Works much better for me; that's all I know.  You may be correct about the Flush, but it could be that there is a Flush in the loop of gplt_x11.c...  Sure, here it is:

Out of order.  I messed with XCreatePixmap and such to see if that had any bearing on things.  That doesn't seem to be a problem.  Perhaps on other versions of X it might, but not what I'm running.

things work. There will be a flush soon anyway,

All the flush is doing is forcing them to be written to the socket
fd.  You have no guarantee that it has actually been written over
the network. So the send event may still actually get transmitted in
the same buffer. The only way to gaurantee that it has actually been
processed by the X server is to use XSync() rather than XFlush.

I believe that X is deterministic, and so if you have to
solve it this way, you've missed the real problem somewhere.

I've updated the patch on SourceForge for those who want to give it a try.  It is very X-like now.  Highlights image when selected.  (Prints SELECTED in the window text when either a Pixmap or some text is selected.)  Can copy to clipboard.

I've also added a #define option for XPM support.  (The library -lXpm has to be added to the list of libraries in the Makefile.)  gnuplot_x11 will then support image/x-xpixmap requests so that Abiword now works as well as OpenWriter.  In fact, Abiword seems to behave a little more nicely.

The XPM support was simple.  We could easily create a clipboard buffer for the core of gnuplot if other formats like image/png and so on work as easily as that one did.

What are you expecting the ClearWindow to do. All it will do is send
one or more expose events to the client, asking it to repaint the
window. The client is not required to discard any updates, or anything
like that.

The thing are are doing is (probably) forcing that client to do some
extra work before it recents the selection event. So you are changing
the timing, But it doesn't seem the right way to go about it.

A simpler way to change the timing would be to do an XFlush between
the ChangeProperty and the SendEvent.

Ummm...  Yes, I think so.  I assume the command line in my xterm is gnu readline because that is how Home/End work there.  This is the version that was reactivate one or two months ago.


Here is something else.  No need to change this, but in gplt_x11.c there is the function

  DrawRotated(plot_struct *plot, Display *dpy, GC gc, int xdest, int ydest,

which defines a variable "gc", but there is also a global variable "gc".  Not a problem, but a programmer could get fooled by that.  Maybe add a variable rename to the Post-4.2 list.

No. My bad.  That was a debugging statement that escaped out into the wild.

I've probably asked this before, but preceding and trailing white spaces... should those not be ignored as the code currently does?

It' actually implemented in java. Strictly speaking, it's not used for
generating web pages. PlotWS is used to generate graphs in the
following formats: SVG, PNG and Postscript.

On a linux system, if the 2 steps I mentioned are followed (which I
spent a long time figuring out), PlotWS should be very easy to use and
deploy since it is just a war file. The only thing lacking for me is
that time series graphs are not part of the functionalities yet
(hopefully, someone can take this up, if not me).

btw, "Build a static linked executable gnuplot" was mentioned in the
instructions for using on linux
(http://www.soton.ac.uk/~ghydflex/plotws/README.html) but I find that
it may not be really necessary.


if anyone really wants to build a static linked executable gnuplot on
RH9, this may be useful:

first download and install fontconfig (I used fontconfig-2.3.2.tar.gz),
then for building gnuplot:
./configure --prefix=/home/anon/gnuplot --without-x LDFLAGS="-static
-L/home/anon/fontconfig/lib


Finally, I wanted to use gnuplot but was limited to using java in my
application. I could have used JFreeChart but the documentation had a
price tag (I've since found some short tutorials). That's why I chose
PlotWS as a quick solution to my problem.

Without the change, it doesn't work for me. Maybe it works on Windows.

btw, the plot filename won't contain blanks (ah hah, thanks, now I

Yes, sorry. I'm not used to those backslashes in file names :-)

"set fontpath" is not relevant to the PNG driver.
The font path for libgd is controlled by the environmental
variable GDFONTPATH.  Please see the libgd documentation,
as I'm not sure if there are other mechanisms provided on
Windows.

What happens if you say
  set term png font "C:\WINNT\fonts\times.ttf"

If that form works, then something is wrong with the 
search path processing.  However, if that form doesn't
work, then something is wrong with the font handling.
