i.e. re-read the data from a file.
So the wxt terminal is issuing a "refresh" command, not a "replot".
Not sure if replot would be better, or just the tooltip text be changed. I'd vote for the former, to be able to update the plot with new data without going to the UI or re-running the whole script (or remembering I could press "e" to actually do a "replot").
The qt terminal does the same, and it has a horrible lag (5 seconds or so) before it does anything (refresh, grid on/off, zoom) with the UI buttons.
Mouse zoom is faster (half a second) but still slow compared to wxt. I think this is known and expected.
Several things here.
Qt is much faster than wxt on my machines, and I have seen no lags. This has been true through many versions of gnuplot over many years. So I suspect there is some other contributing factor in the environment. Maybe the Qt implementation on your machine is poor, or maybe the wxWidgets implementation is better than I have. There are at least 3 different environment dependent "backends" for wxWidgets. Could you please provide
I am currently seeing some problems with wxt run under Wayland. See bugs #2890, #2891. These problems are avoided by setting environmental variable GD_BACKEND=x11 (at the cost of a roughly 10% slowdown as seen here).
[EDIT] removed incorrect description of "volatile" keyword. I had that backwards. Sorry.
