I haven't tried with a 2.6 kernel yet. If the modules are
under /lib/modules/<kernel version>/kernel and if the output
of modinfo is the same as with 2.4 kernel modules then
I think it should work.
Note: if modules are stored someplace else you could invoke
gmodconfig with -m and pass it the new location.

The previous release (0.3) had been packaged for Debian.
But I wasn't able to contact the packager for the 0.4
release. I don't know if someone else packaged that
release or not.
