(I usually go with "set font texcmr".) That would be great! Search axis.cpp for "\\tex{". Basically, the setting wraps \tex{} around the titles before writing them so that they are typeset with LaTeX. You could do the same for the tick labels in the same file. If you want to add a new setting for this, then you best grep the code for "TEX_LABELS" and "tex_labels". You will need to make a small change to run.cpp and pass.cpp. (I'm sorry about the huge switch statements here, this is still pretty old code and should be replaced at some point with a more modern object oriented design.)
