While Gutenprint is able to generate printjobs that are expected to work 
with the UP-DR80MD, the details on how to actually communicate with the 
printer are unknown.

I'd hoped that the printer, in virtue of supposedly accepting standard 
HP-PJL, would not require special handshaking between gutenprint and the 
printer, but alas, you've confirmed more work is necessary.

What's needed at this point are USB sniffs between Windows and the 
printer, so that the appropriate communication code be written.

Installing Wireshark, and saying yes to the optional usbpcap 
installation, will provide all necessary software; then you'll need to 
start a capture and fire off a couple of prints (the standard windows 
test print will suffice).

Once I get the sniffs, I should be able to make rapid progress, but 
there's going to be at least a few rounds of back-and-forth testing.

Hello!

We are interested in the driver for the Sony UP-DR80MD on a Linux machine because it is a medical grade printer. We tried using it and the system recognized the driver and added the printer, but unfortunately the printer wasn't printing for us.

We know it is an experimental printer, we wanted to inquire if there are any extra steps or more information you can offer.

Note: we tested the printer on a pc to make it sure it works first.

We do know that the installer does *not* work on Catalina (10.15), and
we don't know whether Gutenprint works at all on that OS.  Upgrade is
considered to be at your risk.

There's a good chance that the Generic PCL Color Laser driver will
work with that printer.

That said, our own installer does not presently work on Catalina and
while we're working on it we don't have a fix yet.  It's also possible
that the driver you're trying to use is 32-bit, which will not work on
Catalina.

The current installer for macos Catalina will not work with Catalina.  The Gutenprint team is working on this issue.  It is not known what would happen if you have Gutenprint installed and then upgrade to Catalina. Any upgrade of macos would be at your risk as to the Gutenprint drivers.

The Gutenprint developers are aware that the Gutenprint installer does not work with Catalina at present.  The developers are working on it and will provide a solution as soon as possible.

Gutenprint does support your Kyocera printer.  You will have to upgrade your driver from Gutenprint 5.2.11. It has both 32 bit and 64 bit code in the binaries.  macos 10.15 will only accept 64 bit code.

Unfortunately, there are no Gutenprint installers that will work with macos 10.15.  This issue is being addressed and it is hoped that a solution will be forthcoming soon.

Oh, one thing that just occurred to me when printing these test jobs via 
'lp' you need to add '-o raw' to the lp command line.

The CP-D80DW should work okay with the version of Gutenprint bundled 
with Raspbian Buster (v5.3.1).  There have been bugfixes since then, but

Mojave, 10.14. And I was just talking about basic printing before I put it up on the server for testing.  I don’t have a Mac at my disposal to test the reported problem until next Tuesday. 

I need to set up my Sinfonia so I have a supported printer available. Sadly it is expensive to do a lot of testing with though.

Hi,

I'm  trying  to setup a Mitsubishi CP-D80DW printer using your drivers
on Rasbian Buster Lite.

But I can not successfully print, every time I try I get the following
error with lpstat -t:

scheduler is running
no system default destination
device for mitsubishi-d80dw: gutenprint53+usb://mitsubishi-d80dw/091547

Paper  is  loaded  correctly,  in  fact I can print using selphy_print
./mitsu70x and testjob files...
Standalone Mitsubishi CP-D70 family backend version 0.95


Installed with apt:
cups version 2.2.10
libgutenprint 5.3.1.7

Setup printer with:
sudo lpadmin -p mitsubishi-d80dw -E -v "gutenprint53+usb://mitsubishi-d80dw/XXXXX" -m "gutenprint.5.3://mitsubishi-d80dw/expert Mitsubishi CP-D80DW - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.3.1"

First issue encountered was that the ppd files got generated in:
/usr/local/share/gutenprint/backend_data/

with cups expecting:
/usr/share/gutenprint/backend_data/

Made a symlink which resolved that.

Trying   to   print   the   same  testjobs  from selphy_print but as I
stated, getting "Reload or change paper" error.
lp -d mitsubishi-d80dw .../testjobs/mitsu_d70x_4x6-8bpp.raw

Please advise!
