Hello there, Looking for a solution to use a Epson Colorworks C3500 with mac, I discovered the Gutenprint project. This is really cool! Going through the list of supported printers, I didn't find the printer I was looking for, unfortunately. Might Gutenprint still work for other, unlisted devices or is the list definite? Also, may the device I am looking for be known under a different name and is actually supported by Gutenprint? I believe it's also known as Epson TM C3500, but possibly there are more names, too... Otherwise, is there a chance Gutenprint will support the Epson Colorworks C3500 in the future or do you know of any other applicable solution? Thanks a lot in advance, Fabian |

Hello, I was hoping that you all might be able to help with a particular issue I've run into. I was recently gifted a HP Color LaserJet 3600n. While getting it working on Windows was easy enough, I've hit major issues with my Macs (which are my primary computers). Sadly, it seems that it is from an era of printers which HP has completely abandoned any continued Apple support for, even removing the ability to download the original OS X 10.6 drivers from the HP website. I've seen numerous forum threads by unhappy users who are also stuck, but no meaningful solutions. Is there any solution? A similar driver that may be compatible? I noticed that there are not drivers for HP 3400-3600 series printers in Gutenprint - is it simply that there is no way to make it compatible anymore? Any advice/assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Colton |

Hello Peter Unfortunately there is no support for the iP1600 (and several other models like iP1500, iP1700, iP1800, iP1900, iP2500) since they use a different protocol which has not been reverse-engineered. Hi Peter, (following advice assumes your printer really support Airprint, the printer has IPP port - 631 - opened and manual installation in MacOS is the same as in Linux, since Mac uses CUPS for printing as well - I'm not Mac user) Airprint works automatically when your printer and your PC is in the same subnet. If they aren't in the same subnet, you need to install your printer manually via its IP/hostname: $ sudo lpadmin -p <name_of_your_preference> -v ipp://<IP/hostname>:631/ipp/print -m everywhere -E This way you get the permanent 'Airprint' queue on your machine. Hi There I have searched the www for a driver to run my printer on a MACBOOK pro os 10.15.3/ Canon don’t have a driver for it and using AirPrint does not automatically find one. Are there places or sites to find such a driver anywhere on the NET?? Do you do this sort of thing. Tried finding a driver on your site but you don’t seem to have it. Pete |

Hello, I'm sorry to bother you with this problem but I'm facing an simple issue with Gutenprint and one of the current printer driver I use. The printer is compatible as it appear in your supported printer list (http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/p_Supported_Printers.php) so I assume it should fully work but it is not my case: The printer is: Epson ME Office 1100 With the related driver escp2-meof1100 I'm using CUPS on a raspberry pi 3b+ and printer is connected over usb and raspberry share directly the printer. As you can see in the attachment pictures I have trouble to display ink levels , but I don't know if it is because I misconfigured something, a bug from cups and/or Gutenprint, or this feature is not available. Could you help me to clarify where goes it wrong? Also I succeed to get them from the command escputils, I installed on my raspberry pi 3b+ but are not using this command to retrieve the levels? Finally, if this can't be fixed, do you know if we can manually add the link level through an external command to cups, or maybe there is a script to send an email when the command return a value lower than a threshold? If you're using Ubuntu-provided packages, you should start asking Ubuntu. You might also want to try building Gutenprint 5.3.3 from source to see if the printer works with that, and if it doesn't whether it does with 5.3.1. Instructions for building from source code are in the README file included with the package, which may be downloaded from https://gimp-print.sourceforge.net. Please feel free to contact us if you need assistance building it. |

Hi, after upgrading to the latest LTS Ubuntu version, my old printer Epson Stylus D88 stopped to work. I then downgraded to the gutenprint 5.3.1-7 that was working on the previous Ubuntu version my printer works now fine as before. I see that the latest gutenprint version 5.3.3-4 is forcing the Epson Stylus Color drivers to my Stylus D88 and if I send a print job, I get a "done " message but nothing happens to the printer. I hope that it can help. Best regards Marco |

There's not a lot of real standardization with inkjet printers. For laser printers, there's PCL, which isn't universal but which is generally supported on all but very low end laser printers (and most higher end ones will directly accept PDF input). But for inkjet printers, there's a lot of variation. Epson inkjets have various ESC/P2 and ESCP/R variants, but there's still a lot of per-printer variation. HP inkjets at least to use variations on PCL; Canon printers have their own. > I would be willing to try this myself, but there seems to be little or no > documentation on reverse-engineering inkjets, and to make things worse > their drivers do not work on modern macOS and Windows machines You would need to start by sniffing print job data and analyzing it. It's not an easy process. |

Unfortunately, those files can't be bundled with Gutenprint for licensing reasons. Did you grab the most recent release (5.3.3) or a newer snapshot? I'd recommend the latest snapshot: https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/files/snapshots/gutenprint-5.3.4-2020-05-02T01-00-1610ac92.tar.xz/download Then grab this: http://www.shaftnet.org/~pizza/selphy_print-src-b251-g9269194.tar.gz And run this: tar -xzf selphy_print-src-b251-g9269194.tar.gz cd selphy_print-b251-g9269194 cd lib70x make And finally as root: make install echo "/usr/local/lib" >> /etc/ld.so.conf ldconfig Should work fine after that. I should mention that the CP9800 has seen significnat enjancements recently, so the output quality should be comparable to the Windows drivers.. but the catch is that you will be the first to test any of it. So please let me how it all works in the end.. - Solomon -- Solomon Peachy pizza at shaftnet dot org (email&xmpp) @pizza:shaftnet dot org (matrix) High Springs, FL speachy (freenode) |

Thank you Robert. Do you mean that it would be difficult for me to reverse-engineer it as there is no standard (or set of standards) commonly used to find, or at least start from? I would be willing to try this myself, but there seems to be little or no documentation on reverse-engineering inkjets, and to make things worse their drivers do not work on modern macOS and Windows machines Il sab 23 mag 2020, 17:38 Robert Krawitz <rl...@al...> ha scritto: > On 5/23/20 10:49 AM, Raffaele Tranquillini wrote: > > Dear GIMP-Print developers, > > > > I have been using your drivers for years on Linux, and had a great > experience with them. > > Unfortunately a printer I own (Olivetti MY_WAY) seems to be completely > unsupported, but thankfully I > > could get the PPD files from an old OS X driver and they look very > simple at a first glance. > > > > This is the exact model I own, from a family of probably very similar > printers driver-wise: > > > https://web.archive.org/web/20070420013344/http://www.olivetti.com/Site/Public/product.asp?sid=&cid=255&iid=440 > > > > And this is the Mac OS PPD file of my model, re-uploaded by myself: > > > https://gitlab.com/cunidev/olivetti-my-way-linux/-/blob/master/ppd-osx-driver/olmw.ppd > > > > As I have zero experience with writing printer drivers at the moment, > could you tell me how > > difficult it would be for this printer (which means probably its whole > family) to become supported, > > according to its specs/PPD etc., and, in case you believe it would be > possible with reasonable > > effort, if there is anything like a porting guide for new devices I > could start from? > > Hi, > > Unfortunately, we have no information on the language used by this > printer, so we're not able to > write a driver for it. Hi, Unfortunately, we have no information on the language used by this printer, so we're not able to write a driver for it. Supporting it would require reverse engineering the printer language, and without sustained hands-on access to the printer, that's not going to be feasible. The PPD file simply describes the options available on the printer, not the language used by the printer. It specifies a driver to use (the MY_WAY plugin) that does all the translation needed for the printer to function. |

Dear GIMP-Print developers, I have been using your drivers for years on Linux, and had a great experience with them. Unfortunately a printer I own (Olivetti MY_WAY) seems to be completely unsupported, but thankfully I could get the PPD files from an old OS X driver and they look very simple at a first glance. This is the exact model I own, from a family of probably very similar printers driver-wise: https://web.archive.org/web/20070420013344/http://www.olivetti.com/Site/Public/product.asp?sid=&cid=255&iid=440 And this is the Mac OS PPD file of my model, re-uploaded by myself: https://gitlab.com/cunidev/olivetti-my-way-linux/-/blob/master/ppd-osx-driver/olmw.ppd As I have zero experience with writing printer drivers at the moment, could you tell me how difficult it would be for this printer (which means probably its whole family) to become supported, according to its specs/PPD etc., and, in case you believe it would be possible with reasonable effort, if there is anything like a porting guide for new devices I could start from? Thank you. All the best, Raffaele T. |

Hello, I have a question about your Gutenprint project : According to post ( https://sourceforge.net/p/gimp-print/mailman/message/35417991/ ) there has been added support for the Mitsubishi CP-9800DW(-S) printer somewhere end 2016. I see that the printer in the meanwhile is listed as supported, but when I try to add this printer to a recent Raspbian install it fails because there is a file missing 'M98TABLE.dat' that should be located a the following location /usr/share/gutenprint/backend_data/M98TABLE.dat. At the path '/usr/share/gutenprint/' I've created the missing folder 'backend_data', but doesn't make any difference. I have downloaded the latest sources for Gutenprint 5.3 but I can't find the missing data file in this download. In the sourcefile 'src/cups/backend_mitsu9550.c' I can find the reference to this file, and I see there are 3 data files that can be used for the 98xx printers : #define MITSU_M98xx_LAMINATE_FILE "M98MATTE.raw" #define MITSU_M98xx_DATATABLE_FILE "M98TABLE.dat" #define MITSU_M98xx_LUT_FILE "M98XXL01.lut" Can you tell me where/how I can obtain these missing files? Thanx in advance, Koen. -- Dit e-mailbericht is gecontroleerd op virussen met Avast antivirussoftware. https://www.avast.com/antivirus |
