Thanks for your help.
Yes the same datasets were working fine in 1.7.4. Its crashing so fast,
there is no logging details.
The GeoServer UI layer preview works for all other layer formats but crashes
with .sids. But if I make the request for the .sid layer through a html it
opens fine.
I installed through windows console download because GeoServer wouldn't
start from an windows service install.
Not sure of the difference.
I then replaced the data_dir with the data_dir from 1.7.4.
