Hello Jason and hello all, Let me say that this is my first post on this newsgroup, and that I am very excited by this project. I have been starving for some people to port Linux on the Gamecube since the beginning of the Xbox-Linux project :-) As for Gamecube emulators, there are currently two projects that I am aware of: - Dolwin (http://www.gc-hack.fr.st/) and - Dolphin (http://www.dolphin-emu.com/) While I have not tried any of them, it seems to me that both are rather advanced. Dolwin is open-source, Dolphin is not. Keep up the good work!! Nicolas Jason wrote: > I am curious if anyone one would be interested in working on a emulator > for the gamecube. Sounds great! I know C quite well, but I'm rather weak with assembler and hardware programming (although the limited knowledge I have of assembler is with the PowerPC). To the person who asked how to learn C...I'd suggest getting at least one book that you can keep for reference while you're learning. It's been a number of years since I learnt C, so I don't have any concrete examples, but take a trip to the nearest computer book store, or study some reviews on Amazon. By far the most difficult hurdle in learning C is the concept of the pointer*. Once you grasp that, it should be downhill from there ;-) / Regards, David Remahl * (matters further confused by Handles, which are pointers to pointers. Fortunately, they're not as ubiquitous in general programming as they are in traditional Mac OS programming. They confused the hell out of me a number of years ago ;) --- PGP key information--- pub 1024D/ 87256085 2003/06/12 David Remahl <da...@it...> Web: http://ittpoi.com/david_remahl.asc Fingerprint: 0C38 293C 86A9 7756 9CEA 4ED6 1651 620E 8725 6085 |

All right thanks! I know C# and C++ already and have dabbled in Java. I know ASP and have dabbled in PHP. I have just learned Bash scripting within the recent weeks. I think I have an ability to decipher patterns that enables me to learn a lot of programming techniques on my own. I knew for C++ there was like learncplusplus.com or something but I don't know of any sites for C. If you know of any let me know. - Darren Lehner Franz wrote: > >-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- >Hash: SHA1 > >hm.. i can only speak for my way. > >i knew php very good already, and C is like php*1000 > >but the syntax is very common. > >you can forget books, there are no real good books for beginners. > >the best idea is only to start something. I am curious if anyone one would be interested in working on a emulator for the gamecube. It's not something I would ask anyone to do today, but eventually? Feel free to let me know if there is interest for this. I would love to do it myself but I need to learn a lot first. Thanks and I look forward to opensource on all my consoles, Jason |

Hello everybody ! I read documentations/codes, to implement the SI driver sounds too complicated for me :( . Are there volunteers to do this :) ? I prefer to code the kernel-space version of the joystick->mouse converter (simpler :) ). Regards, Free The Cube. |

Well, more testing done. First I changed PSO config so it used the network driver IP by dedault (192.168.0.47). I launched the dol and then pinged my cube. No problem it gets signal. However when I telnet it it is unable to connect. Im using normal telnet and telnet through cygwin. None of them worked. Well, this my little feedback. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Javier" <ra...@ho...> Newsgroups: gmane.linux.ports.game-cube.devel Sent: Saturday, January 31, 2004 12:42 PM Subject: network > Well, testing new version. Well, testing new version. Things seem to come along nicely. bba initiated and all that stuff but I noted that the ip adress is not the one used. I suppose because as theres no config files to edit you just put that as a placeholder, however when i ping my gc (using the ip i assigned at PSO) i get CALL HANDLER gcif_service: status 00000002 Break I suppose that means it IS receiving the pings. It also tries to write something at a buffer but it is unable to do it. Maybe the filesystem doesnt work yet? |

Did you all just get this email? I wrote it 48 hours ago. Very old. Just don't read it, everything is fixed. Read the news on the site instead! :-) Michael On 29.01.2004, at 03:15, Michael Steil wrote: > Hi! > > The framebuffer works now, but the colorspace coversion isn't done > yet, so everything is green-in-green. Hi! The framebuffer works now, but the colorspace coversion isn't done yet, so everything is green-in-green. The code is in the CVS. (As soon as colors work, we'll release a .DOL and a patch.) I uploaded http://www.gc-linux.org/down/cfbimgblt.c , a quick fix to do YUYV (all conversion code by Costis). The problem is: It needs floating point, and the linker complains that there are no floating point libraries. The CPU can do floating point - how can I make the compiler generate code for the FPU? I found no config option in Linux... Michael |

Also, using 32 > Mb of > RAM means just 8 Mb of Ram available. Pretty tight I think. I don't know how Linux manages ramdisks, but no memory is allocated if it isn't used. Michael |

I have a few questions Im wondering if anyone can answer. First of all where can I obtain the latest version of the Kernel Source code? 2nd What OS would be suggested to compile this source code? _________________________________________________________________ Learn how to choose, serve, and enjoy wine at Wine @ MSN. http://wine.msn.com/ |

I can't say anything about the crashes at various points on different=20 machines. The framebuffer code has been written by myself. Well, written is the=20 wrong term. Ripped. I used vesafb (because it seems to be the simplest=20= and most generic driver), removed most of what deals with VESA and=20 hardcoded it to 16 bits/pixel. I know this won't produce the correct=20 result, because 16 bits means RGB 5:5:5, but we should already see=20 *something*. As soon as we do, we can finally implement the correct=20 algorithm for this colour coding. At the moment, both tmbinc's console driver (which does not a=20 framebuffer driver, it only listens to puts() and prints that on the=20 screen using its own code) and the framebuffer driver are enabled, so=20 both should print on the screen. Unfortunately, only the console driver=20= actually prints on the screen, but the framebuffer driver gets=20 initialized (the console driver prints a message about framebuffer=20 initialization), and the framebuffer driver also clears the screen when=20= it gets initialized. It may be a problem that the "framebuffer console" driver does not get=20= used (as the console driver continues printing after framebuffer=20 initialization), but the kernel messages tell us that the kernel=20 switches the console to the framebuffer.
