When I chat with my friend who uses yahoo-messenger,
umlauts of his writing are displayed stangely whereas
umlauts I have typed to Gabber appear correct,
supposedly also on his yahoo-messenger (but I haven't
seen that myself).

I don't know if that is just a internal bug in Gabber
or could be connected to the fonts set up in my Debian-SID?

here an extract of the chat-log:
------
Fri Apr 11 00:32:35 2003 <me> Sonne, grün, Fruehling,
alles in allem sehr schön
Fri Apr 11 00:32:39 2003 <me> und auch sehr harmonisch
Fri Apr 11 00:32:45 2003 <my friend> schÜÜÜÜn
Fri Apr 11 00:33:12 2003 <my friend> das klingt ja so,
als ob da schon neid angesagt wäre...
----
"schÜÜÜÜn" should be "schöööön"
"wäre" should be "wäre"

I haven't tested all special characters of languages I
use, but errors occur for certain with the following
characters:
'Ä', 'ä', 'Ö', 'ö', 'Ü', 'ü', 'ß', 'Ĺ', 'ĺ', '€'.

Maybe they use just a slightly different encoding in
Yahoo? That shouldn't be too difficult to convert though.

Cheers

    Hi,
i have a related bug, but in my case me cannot
write umlauts but they are displayed correctly,
    if written by third party.
Everytime i write these umlauts gabber crashes.

Your system's charset and the gtk1 font's charset must match
and be set up such that GAL understands them. They also must
contain the characters you want to send or display.
