    hi guys,

    I'm a newer about g4l. And I take a test in vmware linux(AS4) with g4l, but it
doesn't work in "network use" . Here is the detail imforamtion.

    preparation:

    1. version: g4l 0.33 iso and burned into cd.
    2. serv-u ftp ip:192.168.1.95 user: upload password: upload
    3. linux disk size: 13GB Ftp server from disk : 56.3GB
      step:

    4. G4L Boot menu , choose A:Old Kernels 2.6.21.6 thru 2.6.27..

    5. choose A:bz21.6 386 build......07-04-2007
    6. Basic Instruction for using G4L , I type "g4l" in consloe ,and run program
    7. Yes , ok . Then I choose "Raw Mode"-> "Network use Backup/Resotre to /from nework(ftp,udpcast)"
    8. A: pick device select "eth0"
      B:set ip : 192.168.1.203

    D:Config FTP: 192.168.1.95

    E: Config useridpaas : -u upload -p upload

    F: Config filename : test.lzo

    G:Toggle compression : default lzop

    6.Then I click " H:Backup Backup driver/Partition to FTP server " ,it doesn't
    do anything and the input focus jumped A;

I had tested the ftp server , it's okay . Anyone know why?

I also downloaded g4l with 0.22 and run it again . But it also doesn't work.

    Thank you.

    A couple of question?

    1. Why are you using the old kernels?
    2. What ftp server software are you using?
    3. Does the userid have read/write create access? by default it creates a subdirectory called img.
It tries to do this at upload, but if the create directory option isn't set on
the server it will fail. The path can be changed to . to change the default
      location.

    4. There are some files created in the /tmp directory that might list the error message. Especially the ncftpstatus file.

    5. From the command line can you connect to the ftp server and upload files.
      ncftp -u upload -p upload 192.168.1.95

then try to upload a file

    put g4l30n

I have used vsftp servers, filezilla servers, IIS server failed for me, but
some have gotten it to work. proftp also has been said to work.

Thank you for your promptly reply msetzerii.

    Your question and answer:

    1. Why are you using the old kernels?
Answer: I choose the option at ramdon. And I tried to select other
      options,they are also the same.

    2. What ftp server software are you using?
Answer: Server U , and I can upload or download datas from the ftp server from
      command line of xp.

    3. Does the userid have read/write create access? by default it creates a subdirectory called img.
Answer:I am sure ftp server is fine . It has read/write create access. I got
an img directory in ftp root. And it produces a file named "{END_OF_LIST}" in
the img directory. It has nothing except the file of "{END_OF_LIST}" .

    1. Have not hear of Server U software? Found Serv-U with google search? Is that it?
    2. Since it was able to create the {END_OF_LIST} File the being able to write doesn't seem to be an issue?

New question, what did you use for the file name? Blanks, and some special
characters are not allowed without a leading backslash.

The /tmp/ncftpstatus.out file after an attempt would probable show some data
    on the issue.

The full command used assuming a network backup using non-ntfsclone backup
    with lzop compression.

    (dd bs=1M if=$disk 2>/dev/null | jetcat-mod -f 5000 -p $readsize
    2>/tmp/progress.out |lzop -c - | $AESPIPE ncftpput -o "useHELP_SITE=0" -m
    $useridpass -c -d /tmp/out $server "$ftppath/$netimagename"
    2>>/tmp/ncftpstatus.out) &

The variables would need to be replaced with the correct values.

    disk could be /dev/sda

readsize is the size of disk or partition (This might be an issue)

    useridpass -u upload -p upload

    server 192.168.0.1

    ftppath img

    netimagename backup.lzo

The readsize is calculated as follows.

    readsize=cat /proc/partitions |grep $choicenetback| head -n 1 |awk '{print $3}'

What does this return? Don't know if the vmware returns a different format of
    the /proc/partition?
