I have but now understood how work dpkg-buildpackages. Now i think it will be easier for me to built extra packages. To using release numbers i have not expierience. I don't know how relaese ist stabil enough to build a deb. Now i will try to build the fvwm-themes_0.7.0_0.20030503_i386.deb. Andrei |

There are about 25 readers on this list and much more will read this later in archives. Let's be nice to them. This is very nice that you work on creating debian packages. I think that you should increase a release number (from 1 to 2 and so on) when you create new fixed packages. I myself don't have a Debian system, so I can't install it, only view. Probably others with such systems may try your packages. How about other things, like creating fvwm-themes-extra package and adding an automatical procedure for building these 2 packages from any tarball or cvs. Like "make deb-dist". I will help if you have any questions, but it should probably be similar to rpm build process. Also try creating fvwm-themes_0.7.0_0.20030503_i386.deb from cvs. Once I get a confirmation that your packages work, I will add them to the web. In the future someone else should maintain these packages. We may discuss this later. Regards, Mikhael. |

The url is like I said: http://fvwm-themes.sf.net/tmp/fvwm-themes_0.6.2-1_i386.deb I tried it, and as far as I can see, it is ok. I didn't install it, but did dpkg-deb -x -e. 1) For some reason this created an empty usr/sbin directory for me. 2) There is a spelling error: "there are no special changes for debian" 3) You call fvwm-themes-menuapp two times in postinst instead of one. 4) I am not sure it is a good idea to run "fvwm-themes-images --ft-install --gnome" for every user. This creates a lot of xpms. Regards, Mikhael. |

Here are several notes. ==== I don't see the requirements. The requirements are perl and fvwm-2.4.8 (this is for 0.6.2, see REQUIRED_FVWM_VERSION in configure.in). I am not sure what /usr/share/doc-base/fvwm-themes file should mean. ==== The description has several typos, here is the corrected description: Description: Nice look, feel and menusystem for FVWM. The fvwm-themes package includes utilities and themes to get an easy to handle look and feel for the FVWM window manager. Please don't use the "Fvwm-themes" spelling, either fvwm or FVWM, either fvwm-themes or FVWM Themes. You may also use the same description that rpm has (it is even translated to several languages): FVWM Themes is a powerful configuration framework for FVWM, designed to be easily extendible and configurable, includes several pre-built themes, a pack of images and sounds. ==== Please add the following command to be run in postinst: [ -x /usr/bin/fvwm-themes-menuapp ] && fvwm-themes-menuapp --site --build-menus --remove-popup || true ==== You probably would want to package fvwm-themes-extra too. Ideally I would like to have the deb/ directory in cvs similarly to the rpm/ directory. Then one can similarly run "make deb-dist" to create fvwm-themes-full deb, and run "make deb-dist3" to create fvwm-themes and fvwm-themes-extra debs. If you may create such automatical procedure, it would be nice. We may use it (after modifying) in fvwm and wm-icons projects as well. Although both of these are already packaged in Debian, but someone may want to build daily snapshots for example. Regards, Mikhael. |

You should pass some parameters to them. I don't know how packagebuild works, but I am pretty sure you should write the exact commands by hand. Or edit the existing files by hand to execute the following commands: ./configure --prefix=/usr --disable-run-updatemenu --disable-build-menus --disable-menu-system make make prefix=/path/to/debian/fvwm-themes-x.x.x/usr ROOT_PREFIX=/path/to/debian/fvwm-themes-x.x.x install > the installation run also fine to > "/home/smiler/debian/fvwm-themes-x.x.x/debian/fvwm-themes-x.x.x/* " , > only the perlskripte recive no correct environment var $PREFIX. > may be $prefix ! = $destdir for programms from fvwm-themes/bin/ called > by MAKEFILE? > i think debian set the $destdir but not $prefix used par example in > fvwm-themes-config? > and write than with perl-scipts in default /usr. > may be, we shold export prefix=destdir . > ? (: I may later rename ROOT_PREFIX to DESTDIR, but currently, just pass the exact commands that I wrote above. Forget about DESTDIR for now. After you succeed with creating some initial deb, you should add a post-install script that should: 1) run update-menu 2) disable all unexisting programs (change themes/default/menus*) for a user. In other words, this post-install script should do the things that are skipped on the deb creation by calling ./configure --disable-*. We will help you with the post-install script if needed. You should have some knowledge about creating packages, it's not trivial. If you want to go this way, you should prepare to learn how exactly both fvwm-themes and deb packages work. Hopefully you will succeed. Regards, Mikhael. |

I think you didn't have the up to date cvs version. I prefer the screenshots to be png (lossless) and thumbnail to be jpg or gif, because here the small size is more important than the quality and historically some browsers do not support inline png, but they may open an external viewer if the link itself is png. Kathryn, nice to see you added your 2 themes. I am not sure duplicating modules from the default theme is a good idea. I would drop the default modules completely if someone could do a nicer alternative. Maybe you? :) We need screenshots of new themes on the web. It should be png, preferably 1280x1024, but other resolutions are ok. Just send the screenshot to me privately or commit it into the fvwm-themes-web repository: place png in screenshots/full/ and then run "create-thumbnail plainbow". Shawn and Kathryn, please create screenshots of your themes. Alex, if we decide to keep the awol theme (after updating), please create the screenshot too. I would like if someone volunteers to create some other theme screenshots for our web. Please polish the look first, this may mean some hand work. Regards, Mikhael. |

Do this instead of the container that includes 2 clock buttons. The FvwmButtons configuration may be tricky. Hello, im doing my own theme and i want some help. 1. I have messed up the icons on windows and the taskbar, ie. up to the left on windows and to the left in the taskbar, the icons are either greyed out or some bisarre icon. Where do i change this? And where do i add which icon which window should have?? 2. Is there possible to make the icons (ie. buttons, iconified windows) in the taskbar to have a shape or to not take 100% of the space available, i want them a bit separated and maybe shaped with round corners if possible. 3. I want a nice digital clock on the far right of the taskbar, and i think the swallow command is correct, how do i use this and where can i find applets to swallow?? /Sebastian |

Hello. I created 'Crystal' theme & GUI based on FVWM. Main site is at http://harnir.one.pl/~harnir/crystal/ Currently all documentation and comments in config files are in Polish, sorry. Page is in English, there is right now a little information about Cystal, but you can check some screenshots and get the files from there. I write how to install it here: 1. Decompress crystal catalog to ~/.fvwm/Crystal 2. Add this to your ~/.fvwm/fvwm2rc: Read Crystal/Crystalrc 3. Restart FVWM If you will find any problems using this theme & GUI, send me questions to ha...@po.... I hope that you will like it. Well, after much delay, I've actually committed my themes. At least, I've added them to the themes directory in fvwm-themes, and committed that. Is there something else that needs to be done in order to complete their recognised existance in the official collection? You will find that the version of CelticBow I have committed is slightly different to the one on my website. What I've done is eliminate the need to change any of the actual image files, in two ways: - the background image uses ImageMagic to be displayed, piping the image through convert -modulate to change its hue before it's displayed. (the hue is set in the call in "background") - the image used for the "decor" on the titlebar is actually a .png file (thus not compatible with fvwm 2.4) which is semi-transparent, thus it takes on the hue of whatever the titlebar happens to be. (I think this is nifty!)
