I see no such segfaults on Gentoo, which to me means its likely related to the libraries that are being used -- especially which variant and version of javascript engine. Do you have access to those details? |

Hi Freewrl team, A quick note. The official Arch Linux build for freewrl was recently updated from 1.22.13.1-12 -> 3.0.0-1. (Odd that it skipped the 2.X releases?) Trouble is the 3.0.0 segfaults immediately on start. Tried on two different machines, both Arch, but one with nvidia, the other with intel graphics. I tried downloading the source and compiling it myself, same result. Tried compiling the 2.3.3.1 myself, works fine. Help? -- Bruce Minaker |

Hi Everyone -- I am pleased to announce that a new tarball release of FreeWRL 2.3.3 , freewrl-2.3.3.1.tar.gz , is now available for download on SourceForge. This release addresses some autotools build issues and includes files that our 'make dist' had previously missed, but the code itself is otherwise unchanged. So if you were previously able to build and install freewrl-2.3.3 to your liking, there is no need for you to download the new release. Thank you for your patience, and happy viewing! |

Hi all, FreeWRL 2.3.3 Linux version as been released. You can pick it up here http://sourceforge.net/projects/freewrl/files/freewrl-linux/2.0/freewrl-2.3.3.tar.gz/download whilst it's hot ! :) There have been so many changes since the last release that listing them all would be an exaggeration and cherry-picking only a few would not give enough credit to everyone involved. I couldn't find a good way to have the sourceforge git browser display a link to a diff of both tags the best I could do is an history log beginning on the FREEWRL_2_3_3 tag. https://sourceforge.net/p/freewrl/git/ci/d868f2a0d3ac5ac31a45f559dd24937a20b2c837/log/?path= Anyway I would just like to thank everyone that helped in the process of making this release happen. Let's all please keep up the good work. Regards, PECastro |

I didn't package this, so I can't say for sure whether or not the plugin was actually built as part of this package or not. However, if it was built in, it might be due to an incompatibility with firefox >= 5. I do recall that a change was made to the plugin code which increased its compatibility, which was included in the freewrl-122.12_pre2 release. I don't know if .deb files were ever rolled for that one, though. Hopefully someone else on the list can chime in and provide additional guidance. |

I have installed freewrl and it successfully works as a stand-alone program. But it doesn't appear in the list of plugins of Firefox, though files libFreeWRLplugin.so and libFreeWRLplugin.la exist in the directory /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/. My system: Kubuntu 12.04, 64bit; Browser: Firefox 12.0 freewrl was installed from freewrl_1.22.10-1_amd64.deb package. How to make it work as a plugin? |

I am pretty new to freewrl and I am trying to move around in the scene using EAI. My initial test seems to work using a Viewpoint and changing position and rotation, but as soon as I move the Viewpoint my rotations do not work correctly. Is there a good example around on how to accomplish this? I'm not sure if I am converting my yaw, pitch, roll of the viewpoint into the correct format. I have also written a gtk widget that embedds freewrl into a window and I can not move a viewpoint using EAI if I move the scene with the mouse. Is there a possible work around for this? Thanks, Truman |

I was very happy to see a working iPhone version and I look forward to future updates for WRL on the platform. I'm having a few issues that I hope you can help me with on loading models into the iPhone. 1. Some of my models can load, but sometimes I get this for even models I've already loaded: At connection: didFinishLoading Received 902247 bytes of data FreeWRL(5647,0xa055c540) malloc: *** error for object 0x60d8004: incorrect checksum for freed object - object was probably modified after being freed. 2. Does the static iPhone library expose any calls for rotate / scale / etc? Are there docs somewhere that I can find this stuff? Or do I have to make a call to glScaleF() ? 3. If I have the path for my model in my Documents directory, can I call it through OSX_initializeParameters ? -- -I also had to make some changes to get the static lib to compile -- Compiler flag: GCC > Other C flags: -fnested-functions ------------ #endif had to be moved up or the bracket wouldn't be seen RCS file: /cvsroot/freewrl/freewrl/freex3d/src/lib/opengl/Textures.c,v retrieving revision 1.88 diff -r1.88 Textures.c 1420,1421c1420,1422 < } < #endif /* SHADERS_2011 */ --- > #endif /* SHADERS_2011 */ > } > Thanks for your help, Ryan |

Hi, I've been looking at adding freewrl to Fedora/EPEL. The good news is that everything is fine on RHEL5, 6 and also on current on Fedora desktops. However what will eventually be Fedora 15 has xulrunner 2 and this build fails with as below. I just tried this;
freewrl -geom 400x900 /FreeWRL/freewrl/freewrl/tests/1.wrl
gives a skinny, tall window;
"--geom" also works. the full "--geometry" does not, however!
You can also set the window size by pulling the bottom right corner of the window, then doing the FreeWRL "File" -> "quit". IIRC, there is a bug whereby if you hit the "q" key to quit, the new window size is not saved.
The OSX front end does need a bit of work; it's not too bad, but there are rough edges there.
(I'll submit these bugs; I'll probably be the one to fix them, too.)
Hope this helps;

Hello. Is there any way to explicitly set the window geometry (i.e. size) in the OS X version of freewrl. In the linux version, you can set it with the --geometry <WxH> command-line option. This does not appear to be the case in OS X. -- Harmon |

Update: I just tried running freewrl from the command line and it didn't work (got a SIGSEGV). Hi, Ian. Thanks for replying so quickly. :) It appears the problem was that, after installing FreeWRL, I forgot to run ldconfig to get it to update the cache (BTW, /usr/local/lib, where libFreeWRL.so is located, is in ld.so.conf). However, now what I'm getting when iceweasel tries to load a .wrl file is a window that disappears as quickly as it appears. When run from the command-line, iceweasel renders the following output: 1286296890.372162: FreeWRL plugin: NPP_Initialize 1286296890.373249: FreeWRL plugin: NPP_New, argc 3NP_EMBED 1286296890.373483: FreeWRL plugin: after memalloc 1286296890.373596: FreeWRL plugin: Pipe connection to FW_Plugin->interfacePipe failed plugin_main.c,759 1286296890.373676: FreeWRL plugin: Pipe created, PIPE_FREEWRLSIDE 52 PIPE_PLUGINSIDE 51 1286296890.373759: FreeWRL plugin: file pair created, SOCKET_1 54 SOCKET_2 53 1286296890.373847: FreeWRL plugin: NPP_New returning 0 1286296890.378125: FreeWRL plugin: start of NPP_SetWindow 1286296890.378285: FreeWRL plugin: file name in SetWindow is (null) 1286296890.378358: FreeWRL plugin: NPP_SetWindow, plugin display now is 8f1c3f0 1286296890.378430: FreeWRL plugin: NPP_SetWindow, moz window is 3a00001 childPID is 0 1286296890.378504: FreeWRL plugin: NPP_SetWindow, running FreeWRL here! 1286296890.378579: FreeWRL plugin: start of Run system error: No such file or directory system error: No such file or directory Thanks for your help. -- Harmon On Tue, Oct 5, 2010 at 11:04 AM, Ian Stakenvicius, Aerobiology Research <ia...@ae...> wrote: > On 05/10/10 11:51 AM, Harmon Nine wrote: >> Hello. >> >> I've downloaded and compiled Freewrl from source, including the plugin .so file. >> >From what I can tell, the plugin library is >> >> libFreeWRLplugin.so >> >> which was installed in the /usr/local/lib/mozilla/plugins directory. >> >> How do I get iceweasel to use the plugin? Which distro are you using? Also, do you know if, when you ran ./configure, it chose to using 'mozilla-plugin' from iceweasel? If you wish, you can make freewrl install the plugin directly to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins (or whatever the plugin path is for iceweasel) by specifying the --with-plugindir= option to ./configure Finally, does freewrl run as a standalone program? if not, it could be that the plugin is having trouble finding the main libFreeWRL.so file, in which case you should update your LDPATH or LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include /usr/local/lib |

Hello. I've downloaded and compiled Freewrl from source, including the plugin .so file. >From what I can tell, the plugin library is libFreeWRLplugin.so which was installed in the /usr/local/lib/mozilla/plugins directory. How do I get iceweasel to use the plugin? I've tried created a symlink to /usr/local/lib/mozilla/plugins/libFreeWRLplugin.so from the /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins directory, but iceweasel still doesn't recognize it. Thanks. -- Harmon |
