I can't get through the install when I don't have administration rights on the (Windows XP) OS. Java however does seem to be installed here, so I guess that is not the problem. Is it possible to change this? Relatively easy too?

Yes, it is easy to sort this. Download the zip and run it from the .bat or .exe file - no need to install.
