What is the point to this program? It looks interesting,but I'm ignorant on the reason as to why it was created. I'd like a little bit more information before I dive into this program had first.

If you search the Net for "Mind Map*" you'll get a lot of information.
Basically, mind-mapping is a graphic method to get thoughts onto paper. There are many computer based mind-mapping programs, of greater and lesser cost, of greater and lesser efficiency. FreeMind is low cost, and rather efficient.
I develop firmware for alarm systems, and I use FM for two purposes: one, to track my efforts and ideas when debugging, and two, to track development needs, concepts, and implementation notes for new features.
