FreedroidRPG 0.13 released!

We are happy to announce that we are releasing FreedroidRPG 0.13.

FreedroidRPG 0.13 is the result of one year of work, and brings the following improvements :

* Contents
o Translation support was removed, as a consequence of the lack of a translation team, and technical glitches in our use of gettext for the translation system.
o New graphics for various items (mostly weapons and ammunition), contributed by infrared
o Improved graphics of some floor tiles
o Added graphics for a few map elements
o Different difficulty levels, accessible in the Options menu
* Engine
o Removal of level "interfaces" (the black borders between levels). Transitions between levels are now completely transparent, for a better immersion.
o Performance improvements in game startup as well as loading and saving games
o Improve script API, giving the ability to start a takeover game
o Add a random dungeon generator mechanism, used for now only on level 43
o Compress savegames to save disk space
o Removed "examine mode", a feature that was almost unused
o Add a persistent NPC inventory system for more realism in shops
o Change the armor system to use a "damage reduction" ratio instead of armor class
o Fix takeover game display in SDL mode
o Lots of bug fixes in all areas
* Level editor

FreedroidRPG 0.11.1 released

FreedroidRPG 0.11.1 is out. It is an intermediate release that fixes several bugs from 0.11, and introduces interesting new features in the engine. The maps have not changed significantly.

Here are the most important modifications :

* improved internationalization support
* added two projectile weapons (AK47 and barrett sniper rifle), with complete graphics, courtesy of Whisnu aries
* added ancient sword graphics courtesy of Laszlo Gy. Perger
* support for a keychart with reassignable keys (press F1 while in game)
* remove lots of useless (unused) files
* handling more than 7 savegames now (load and delete game menus provide scrolling functionnality)
* more updates on collision detection
* fix the secret quest bug that marked the game as finished incorrectly
* added new screen resolutions and fixed light radius for non 4:3 ratios
* added a level validator to run some checks when doing mapping work
* each hero now has a "backup" savegame that represents the last-but-one savegame. "load backup" in the game menu loads it.
* level editor interface has changed for the better - now accessing the level editor from the game is only possible through a cheat key combination, and does not allow saving. Accessing the level editor from the main menu provides the "test level" feature that enables the user to test his level without screwing up the world's state.
* emergency shutdown is now triggered when you are at near lethal overheating... read more

FreedroidRPG 0.11 released!

We have released FreedroidRPG 0.11. This first version in the 0.11 series brings a lot of improvements in all areas.

We have more content (items, levels, music tracks) than ever, a faster and more reliable game engine, improved gameplay balance, and a more intuitive level editor.

FreedroidRPG 0.11rc1 released

We are happy to announce FreedroidRPG 0.11 - release candidate 1.
FreedroidRPG 0.11 represents one year of work on the game, and has
therefore significantly evolved since 0.10.3.
The list of changes is huge, and consists of bug fixes, performance improvements,
interface work notably for the leveleditor, and game content improvements.

FreedroidRPG 0.10.2 released

This new version, focuses on making the development for the game easier, exported some hardcoded data into files, made the map editor a bit more usable and other major and minor tweaks.

FreedroidRPG 0.10.0 released

Happy new year, from all of us at Freedroid RPG!

This year has seen some changes in the FdRPG team, but we've still
made some good progress that we hope you'll enjoy.

Perhaps the first update you'll notice is that we've begun a complete
overhaul of the story and dialogue with a ground-up rewrite. We've
taken time to make it more in-depth and give it a darker edge.

But if stories aren't your thing, and you just want some bot-crushing
action, you'll be pleased to find that there's a stabler engine, music
and sound updates, some new graphics and more gameplay balance.... read more

FD Classic now on Win32 and Sharp Zaurus

The latest update-release 1.0.2 of FreedroidClassic adds
fully scalability with the command-line switch -r <scale>
When playing on a Sharp Zaurus, use 'freedroid -r 0.5'
Furthermore this release compiles for Win32 e.g. using mingw32, and a binary win32-package can be downloaded from this site.

FreedroidWorld 0.0.1 now in CVS!

A new freedroid flavor is born, which aims to be a multiplayer action variant (loosely) based on Freedroid.
To download, use

FreeDroid Classic 1.0 released!

Finally, here is the stable release v1.0 of Freedroid Classic!
As opposed to the RPG-branch, this version attempts to be as close to the C64 original "Paradroid" as possible, with some switchable extensions. It is based on the release freedroid-0.8.4, and containes the following changes and new features:
* 3D rotating droid pics in Console
* adjusted game-parameters to be closer to the original Paradroid
* dynamic "Theme" detection allows simple adding of new graphics themes
* added original "Alert" feature
* added low-energy fading and takeover-mode coloring
* added partial map visibility and droid-'ashes' as extended features
* added 'legacy' C64-game mod-songs as background music
* improved sounds
* added "white-noise" effect for GameOver
* added highscore list which is loaded&saved to disk
* better mouse+mouse-wheel support
* added Mac OSX ProjectBuilder files
* fixed tons of bugs, and memory-leaks

Version 0.9.2 of Freedriod RPG has been released. Freedriod RPG is a Diablo-style role playing game for Linux, featuring the Tux as the hero battling evil 'Megasoft' machines in a future universe. There are not many missions to complete yet, but the game is playable.

Freedroid RPG 0.9-preview released

Hi guys!

I've added a preview archive for the freedroid rpg. The single player mode now contains a character and item system similar to that of Diablo I, one of my all-time favorites. Also the map and story were somewhat adapted in the same manner. Some new NPC and shop have been added as well. We could still need a lot of help with all the items, item effects, prices and all that for a well-balanced game. The multiplayer/network mode is not finished, but could be done within a week I guess, once we are all back to coding again, which alas, might not be this month I fear. But that's why we've uploaded the current development status as a preview archive. Have fun and don't hesitate to squish any bugs or submit any code :) See ya, jp.

Freedroid 0.8.0 released

Graphics engine is completely new. New mission added. Some new features added, including improved extendability: New missions and story modifications can now be created completely WITHOUT looking into the code. I it's fun, jp.
