Hi Johnson, to make things clear: The XMS / HMA driver, e.g. HIMEM64, actually SHOULD test whether things go wrong (e.g. A20 slower than intended) and SOLVE (i.e. wait longer) the problem AUTOMATICALLY and DYNAMICALLY. Even if the extra test and the extra wait code makes the driver bigger. About BIOS Antivirus software: Database updates are rather pointless, as you would need a BIOS update to install the update. In the end it is hard to do anything useful in the BIOS. Bigger software on disk can "analyze" whether the boot sector e.g. stays resident in RAM and/or accesses other boot sectors. The BIOS can only write-protect it (good) or compare it to some known-as-harmless contents (not good, but done by Trend). Eric. |
