I gave the VM 32MB RAM and a single 1GB HDD using IDE. This is the smallest disk space and RAM I could give it. I can boot in safe mode, but either JEMM mode causes it to sit with a blinking cursor. This may be related to #94.
Hi, I just tried it with Hyper-V for Windows 10 (my hardest problem was to add a virtual IDE HD and CD) and was able to reproduce it.
When booting from HD boot options 1-3 hang.
BUT: As soon as you add the installation CD again, boot from it and say at the CD menu: Boot from system harddisk,
everything works fine. All boot options work as expected. A really strange behaviour.
@Jerod Lycett: Could you please check and if yes, confirm this? Thx.
There seems to be one more already known problem: ctmouse seems to make "edit" hang. I already read this in a forum

I'm not the original poster, but I'm able to confirm the same odd behavior as you. Hangs when booting directly from HDD, but booting to the install CD and booting from the HDD from there works just fine.
I'm running 1.3 release on Hyper-V on Windows 11.

I just tried to run MS-DOS 6.22 in Hyper-V. Installation works on a 2 GB HD, 32 MB RAM, but it also hangs, in this case at "mode con cp select=850"
I also tested a win98 and a win98se boot diskette - and both worked.
ctmouse also does not work automatically, but it maybe this has to do with the com port settings of Hyper-V.
So I assume that Hyper-V is not really ready for MS-DOS 6.22 or FreeDOS. Both OSes are not mentioned at the supported OS list.
I think bug #351 could be closed with the comment: "FreeDOS/MS-DOS 6.22 are not on the supported OS list".

This is the bug report for FreeDOS, not Hyper-V. I at least want to see FreeDOS able to be run on Hyper-V, even if they don't choose to support FreeDOS.
I have been able to replicate booting through CD as working, so it appears that there's some difference between the two.

Given it doesn't allow the file as being too large I have uploaded it to my site: https://arenlor.com/Hyper-V.7z that is an archive of the virtual machine and HDD.

Willi is correct. Since it does't even run MS-DOS, I wouldn't call it a FreeDOS bug.
However, There are some things you can try to see if you can get it working.
Enable config stepping. make note of the program/driver etc where the freeze is occuring. Reboot again and skip that item. If all works well and you can live without that item, just rem it. If you need it, you may have to find an alternative.
However, just because it freezes when a specific program/driver runs. It does not mean that it is a problem with that program/driver. It could be memory releated. There was an update to JEMM not on the release of 1.3. It is possible it will fix the issue. Or, there could be settings required for it to support your VM.
It will probalby be do-able. However, it will definitely require some fiddling.
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
Thenthe first thing I would do is update JEMM from v5.79 to v5.80 and see if it resolves the issue. If you have networking, you can use fdnpkg update jemm or head over to the Official Software Repository and download it.
If it persists in freezing after the update, you may be able to add or modify the parameters for when JEMM is loaded. There may be as setting that could be disabled. Or, possible, a region of memory that should be excluded. There are several memory utilities that can display regions of memory and their usage.
But for help trying to configure JEMM to work under you VM, I suggest asking the FreeDOS-User Forumaka Mailing List.

Just to inform you: I just tested Jeromes proposal to update to 5.80 - and now it works fine. I did not test mouse and networkupdate.

Can you reverify with FreeDOS 1.3? (This was released this weekend, and is the newest official version)
It still fails at the same location.

It seems to be hanging directly on loading JemmEx. If I skip loading it, FreeDOS boots fine.

fdnpkg update jemm
or head over to the Official Software Repository and download it.On a side note, you can download the latest version we have of the packages by visiting the Repository at https://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/repositories/latest/ and downloading the cdrom.iso. It is automatically created once a day when packages have been updated.
If it persists in freezing after the update, you may be able to add or modify the parameters for when JEMM is loaded. There may be as setting that could be disabled.
