Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
I was quite surprised and very happy that you offer DOS versions of my Agena interpreter at ibiblio, see /pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/devel/agena.
May I please ask you to remove all the old versions and upload the latest version instead which you find at:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/agena/files/Binaries/Agena%202.16.13/agena-2.16.13-dos.zip/download
Besides new functionality, it features various bug and security fixes.
Thank you very much ! Concerning 1.3 RC2, I am currently testing it. No problems yet. It's great working with DOS again.
Yours,
Alex

Although I never properly learned Lua nor Agena, I was mildly curious. So it was probably me who mirrored it years ago. For comparison, the latest DJGPP build of Lua 5.2.2 (circa late 2013) is in /current/v2tk/ on DJGPP mirrors (done by Juan Manuel Guerrero).

Removing old versions would have to be approved by Jim Hall. Feel free to ask him privately, but usually he leaves old versions forever (unless there's a good reason). In particular, I believe he likes to keep GPL'd stuff at least three years. But since we're not low on space (yet??), it's not that pressing. But he could clarify better than I could. So normally we're a bit conservative in that regard.

Yes, we were due for an update. I've mirrored 2.17.0a for us. Please tell us if this needs improvement in the future. (A proper "package" for the package manager will probably come later as it's a bit late in the release cycle to be adding new packages. You'd have to ask Jerome about that.)

    Thanks for your efforts.

Thanks to Anthony for mirroring the latest version. I see version 2.17.0a is on ibiblio now.

I prefer not to delete the old version. As Anthony said, the standard practice is to keep files on ibiblio unless there's a compelling reason to delete them (examples include: we discover the software is not open source software, or contains a severe bug that would cause damage to the user's system).

Secdtion 3 of the GNU General Public License (GNU GPL) says that the source code should be made available for 3 years. Even though the FreeDOS files archive on ibiblio is a mirror for lots of programs (and not the primary) we prefer to stick to the 3 year rule. But we do move older versions to an "old" directory so users do not download these older versions accidentally.

Keeping older versions is also good archive practice. There's some historical interest in keeping the old versions, so people can see how these programs were developed over time.

      Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

thank you very, very much for now mirroring the latest version version
of Agena for DOS at ibiblio.

There's some historical interest in keeping the old versions, so
people can see how these programs were developed over time.

      Yes, I agree.

There are updates almost each week - but I will not bother you with them
as Agena 2.17.0a is running fine with FreeDOS.
No need for further (DOS) updates at ibiblio, they will be available at
      Sourceforge anyway.

Yours from Bonn, the Rhineland, and thanks again,

      Alex/ander Walz
