Bought an old copy of the X-Wing game for DOS. Installed it in Windows but it didn't run, so I booted up FreeDOS to give it a try. When I ran the game. the screen went black and it caused the PC to reboot.
Did you try in another DOS such as EDR-DOS or DR-DOS?
Maybe the game simply cannot handle your modern hardware:
Too fast, too much RAM, no soundblaster compatibility?
If it uses dos4gw, try replacing dos4gw,exe by dos32a or
run the game as "dos32a thegame,exe" :-)
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
IIRC X-Wing is very picky about memory configuration. So firstly please update HIMEM/EMM386 with the latest versions from <http://www.japheth.de/Jemm.html>.
