I have created most of a font and wanted to go through and make the Lbearing and Rbearing consistent and nice-looking throughout. I would like to type values rather than trying to drag the bar to the same size letter after letter. I only sort of can. Usually whichever bearing I type first is better behaved. Bad behaviors include: I type 5 backspaces to take out a number and then type 50. I get 49 (or maybe 40, or perhaps the negative of one of these - usually a smaller rather than larger value all told). I backspace the last digit of a number out and type a number. I get a different number than I typed in the digit I'm modifying and the other digit changes as well. Backspace itself was causing changes in the first digit - cyclically and it will go above 9. In this case, the value that appears where I typed the digit is repeatedly the same wrong number (repeated for that instance but not for other instances). I'd be much more annoyed if it weren't such an amazingly bizarre behavior. I'm going to have to show people this one. It makes what Powerpoint was doing to a colleague's file today pale by comparison. Fontforge is indeed a trap, and I agree that it's a rather pleasant one. Thank you for writing it. Lenore Horner |
