OK, Michel, that was a good check. So I’ve looked around and got a new view on the situation: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/typography/opentype/spec/gpos#lookup-type-4-mark-to-base-attachment-positioning-subtable This looks like the behavior doesn’t depend on the Unicode codepoint, but on an OpenType table added to the font. I guess BirdFont doesn’t let the user create or edit anchor points and thus doesn’t generate those tables, so after all, it was the right thing to ask on the Fontforge forum! (If you want to make sure, that would be a specific question to ask the BirdFont developers: "Does your program support creating/editing anchor points?")
