There is a lot of dust to settle on these standards. If we support things too early we have the cost of supporting them into the future after their use has died. It also makes it harder for these standards to adjust if there are many implementations out there in the wild. "You can't change your proposal, we implemented it" No worries, I was merely curious. For reasons of my own, I'm interested in multi-coloured fonts. I believe I can use PS Type 3 for this, but I haven't seen it in action. I'm not aware of any app supporting arbitrary shapes and colours in SVG fonts. The reason is that I came across books with the Icelandic sagas from the 40s with dual coloured drop caps. In order to typeset that where the word is both searchable and copyable as text my options are severely limited. As in, the drop cap is not implemented as an image. Not to mention text-to-speech apps. It seems strange, on hindsight, that this is still a "problem" in the 21st century. Have fun, -- Johann I'm not from the internet, I just work there. |
