Good catch, I fixed this. The problem was the "view" was being passed to the view.php. In this case, you were calling it from the panel. So I had to handle that. This is fixed in menu.php:1.9. Kevin, I noticed that you checked in some things last night. Is that all supposed to go into the v0.2 release? If so I will need to move the tag up and we should all do some more testing (like Miles) :) Does anyone else have an imminent/pending fix that they are checking in for v0.2? I cannot see this in the build I have. Is this function replaced by something else? I frequently would not read all the articles in a feed and would only mark the ones I want to mark as read then use that link. Currently I do not see how to accomplish the same thing. |

Or do I have to do something else. I am not getitng an error when I try and see my feeds. Cannot query database. Have you run install.php? Sounds like a good idea. Kevin, can you add some feeds and categories to the demo database? May I suggest some geo-feeds (any of the following) http://highearthorbit.com/wp-rss2.php and a photography feed (grab a flickr feed?) and if anyone in the dev team has a feed they want to drop, send it to Kevin. Does someone want to write an intro in the Forums? I'm finishing up the website. Hi Miles - sorry, got to responding to another email in that thread. We are finishing up v0.2 beta build. I can probably tarball it up for you if you would like. That sounds like a reasonable way to implement the LJ authentication. There's a privacy issue with all this that didn't occur to me until someone pointed it out. Our aggregator is wide open by default, and here we're setting it up so it publishes content that was never meant to be public. I don't think we can count on all fofredux users actively making an effort to password-protect their fofredux installation, no matter how many big red warnings we include. Perhaps the only ethical thing to do, if we're going to start allowing users to read sensitive content, would be to lock down fofredux by default, with a password or some other mechanism to prevent just anyone (or anybot) from accessing it. How do y'all feel about that? This could tie in to a multi-user feature; if we're going to be introducing authentication anyway, maybe it's not such a big deal to force the user to set up a login name and password before using fofredux. -- Katie Bechtold http://hoteldetective.org/ |

The username/password for the demo is just in place for the immediate time being, since the demo has write access to the db. Let's add a few more feeds/categories and then I'll change it to the read-only db user and remove the password protection to the demo. Thanks for the feedback Katie - I had meant to fix the pronunciation output. And I'll try to write up some more copy based on your recommendations. My observations: I think people will be confused when they click on 'demo' and get a username/password prompt. Screenshots are always good. Extreme nitpicking here: Our page says redux is pronounced (r-dks); I'm guessing that was a paste where the special pronunciation characters didn't go through because they were actually images. Maybe the thing to do is copy dictionary.reference.com's HTML: r<IMG SRC="http://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/AHD4/GIF/emacr.gif" height="15" width="7" ALIGN="BOTTOM">-d<IMG SRC="http://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/AHD4/GIF/ubreve.gif" height="20" width="7" ALIGN="BOTTOM">ks Ugly, but it does the job. On a weightier note, I think our site has to address not just the question 'Why is a server side aggregator better than a desktop aggregator?' but also 'Why is this server side aggregator better than other server side aggregators, like Google Reader?' My personal answer to that question is that it gives the user more control. FeedOnFeeds gives you more ways to browse and handle your feed items; in particular, you can see multiple feed items on a page (want to see all the new items at once? all the items from a particular source? all the items in your "friends" category?). And it doesn't automatically mark items as read once they appear on your screen, which suits my browsing style. I'm not saying my answer should be on the site, but I think it is something we should consider answering. -- Katie Bechtold http://hoteldetective.org/ |

Yes, I think pagination can probably wait if there's a concern it may be difficult to fix. I haven't looked at the problem myself yet. Probably something like getting the number of items less than the current viewed feeds as a returned column from a query. There are a couple of other "things" that should be looked at. These can be filed as bugs and moved to 0.3 if necessary: 1) frames sidebard of feeds.php needs to be manually refreshed - should be automatically refreshed when "mark-read.php" is called 2) the "m" (mark read) option now in the sidebar in frames view ends up showing the control panel in the "view" pane rather than an empty set of feeds, or whatever. I need to install the unit test framework to run the unit tests on my insta= ll. I can put together the fofredux.sf.net site this evening and put up Katie's INSTALL readme. BTW - I was kidding about having a feed for the manual. :) Though your suggestion of "tips" feed or something isn't a bad idea. I will make sure to put the RSS link to the SF FoFR news on the webpage.
