I've just discovered an excellent resource - See How It Flies -- "a new spin on the perceptions, procedures, and principles of flight". This is an online book, with 20 chapters, 140,000 words, and over 280 color illustrations. I can't believe how comprehensive this is, nor how well written and illustrated. As well as practical training, it includes lots of theory (much of which I've never seen before), and pearls of wisdom born of practical experience such as "In a Cessna, if you pull the throttle all the way out and then bend it down, it's stuck at idle and you can't fix it without tools" (he discovered this when a student he was with did it on 1/2 mile final, incapacitating the engine!). If anyone is putting anything into a FAQ about the theory or practice of flying, then this would be a good candidate. Mally |
