And even before X-Plane dreamed of real weather ... FWIW, I got a free
version of X-Plane Classic (3.x) back in the days when I first set
this up.

I woudn't characterize myself as a "fan".  But, X-Plane certainly does
some interesting and nice things, and is pretty dang impressive given
that there is only one author and not a team of people.
