I've got a notebook with the RAGE PRO chipset version for laptops with 2x AGP. Under Linux, it works great and even runs the San Jose scenery usefully. Under standard Windows drivers, the OpenGL is done entirely in software !!! I tried downloading the WIN2000 drivers from the ATI website and it locked the machine. So, I'm not going to try that again; I'm happy with Linux. A friend has the same chipset and the software rendering problem for OpenGL under Windows 98. Since his machine is single boot, I'm wondering whether anybody has experience with putting the ATI driver update onto Win98 ? I don't want him to risk his notebook configuration needlessly... He'd like to be able to run FGFS and demonstrate it to other people, such as co-workers at the SAN FSDO office and the AWP region staff. grin. |
