You want the latest cvs version of simgear in order to build the
latest cvs version of flightgear because we often make changes to
simgear/flightgear in parallel.

Yes, we now default to the binary scenery format, the old format as
ascii based.

Yes, I believe the new code should still load the old scenery files.

Other base package changes have occured though so even though you
should be able to get away with using the old ascii scenery files, you
definitely need the updated base package from cvs.
