I've had a look at what you're doing and I'd say you're on the right 
track. The patch is an improvement

The next step is for you to get a sourceforge account; and then let 
james know what it is and usually you will be granted commit access 
shortly after.

 From experience I would recommend concentrating on one aircraft at a time.
