[Flightgear-devel] Orthoscenery LOD

I've found an ortho image source with CC BY DE license
which I currently use to generate ortho scenery.

I plan on releasing this in a terrasync compatible way
and as long as I manage to handle the bandwidth and
we can work out a way to get the attribution into fg,
I'd like to make that official scenery.

No matter if it becomes integrated or stays addon scenery
I've got the following problem:

I'm obviously generating it in the highest possible resolution
(16k as the source is 80cm/px)

When sharing this, there will be the issue, that very few machines
would be able to run it (I doubt, mine will.. a few 16k tiles work
but I've got my doubts about an entire state) Also less powerful
machines, especially with less RAM/VRAM will have issues.

So I'd like to ask for some sort of LOD for ortho scenery.
All the dds files are already with mipmaps so in theory
just loading lower res mipmaps should work.

Also note, that generating lower res versions of the scenery
isn't really an option due to space constrains.
