I'd go with the grouping, because we have

* adventure scenarios (blue thermals, thunderstorms,...)
* meteorology scenarios (warm front, low pressure core,...)
* training scenarios (CAT III,...)
and
* testing scenarios (standard atmosphere,...)

and I'd design a GUI where you select the type of scenario you're 
interested in and the dropdown list changes accordingly.

But that's just my 2 cents... I don't like long lists at all (in fact, I 
have the same issue with the way the launcher presents aircraft - even 
with the 25 or so I have installed under Win, I never seem to find what 
I need quickly...)
