it doesn't have to be a slider... my main idea was to allow for less/more
visuals with the lava code depending on one's settings based on their system's
capabilities... if a slider isn't an option, make it a drop list with four
settings (0.0, 0.33, 0.66, 1.0) or five (0.0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.0)...
i'm using numbers like this as the intensity or percentage of the visuals to be
displayed but this is based on a loose understanding of existing techniques...
