I understood that.  I was poking fun at wkitty’s comment that he can let his family and friends watch.  (OK, I don’t know my rudder-pedals from the lights on the ends of the wings – and I want my friends to *WATCH* while I make an ass of myself?)  I was just giggling at the thought.

 

When I mentioned the comment, and my reply, to my brother who is 6,000 miles away in Ohio – his reply was “because you’re a masochist?”

(laughing)

 

Seriously, it sounds like a good idea to have a second interface.  I’ve run into this with Linux where my primary workstation interface screwed the pooch, (became un-usable), and I was able to SSH in to shut-down the machine.

Imagine that you could run the gui on a tablet or phone or other device (or multiple's of these with different content or display configurations.)  Think that some people might be building larger installations and might be using this as an instructor station.  This would allow not using (or removing?) the gui from the main flightgear screens which maybe your out-the-window views (or a panel view) on the full cockpit simulator you are building.

 

There are many directions a person could run with this capability.

 

And we won't force your friends to watch you fly. :-)  Capability != Policy, good design tries to keep these concepts separate as much as possible. :-)

Please explain to me exactly *WHY* I might want friends and relatives
hundreds of miles away to watch while I use a Cessna 172p to plow a field?
(Or, alternately, make HUGE dents in asphalt runways, if I get that close to
the airport before burying the nose!)
