Not sure why the buttons don't work with this js0.xml, but it's 
definitely missing the throttle and cooly hat axises (axis no 3, 4 and 5).

With freedom-2.4.xml, none of the axises have numbering for the mac, 
only unix and windows -- I suspect that is the problem. It's probably 
easier to start with freedom-2.4.xml try to fix that. Once it works, 
I'll post the updated file to the flightgear-devel to make sure it's 
included in the upcoming 2.4 release.

I've edited the freedom-2.4.xml you sent over and added <mac></mac> 
mappings (see attachment). Not sure if the axises are mapped correctly 
-- if not, you can edit the file yourself and change the numbers around 
between <mac></mac>.
