Thanks Gary I don't think that is it I have checked the normals and flip them to no avail. Correct me if I am wrong but if the object is double sided then you should not be able to see through it from one side.As I said before when the faces concerned are separate objects they show double sided in FG it is only when they are joined together that they become one sided.
