Cb clouds appear bright when seen against the sun and away from the sun appear dark when it should be the opposite.

Just to clarify that this is Thorsten's inverse Mie scattering (Cb and small Cu clouds that are part of the thunderstorm scenario being dark away from the sun) . The issue here is that it shouldn't apply to Cb clouds. Only thin clouds like some species of Cirrus , or thin Altocumulus should behave this way.

Perhaps it needs a specific weather situation (a custom METAR string). I think the issue is more noticable when you select BW scenario called Stormy Monday than Thuderstorm scenario. In general it does seem to be a bit better now, possibly because of the new scattering on fringe.
I noticed another thing related to cloud lighting, while testing Cb. In fair weather scenario small Cu clouds seem a lot darker than larger Cu clouds.

Ah, OK. I'll assign it to Thorsten to take a look at then :)

I've been looking at a couple of Cb cloud towers, and by and large I can't reproduce this, sorry.
There's always /some/ cloudlets which get incorrect lighting (nearly no matter what we do) but for some reason I see nothing as drastic as you do.

Appears to have been fixed in the mean time, so closing this for now. Please comment if you still experience the issue with a recent FlightGear.
